Several members from both the Eastern and Western Chapters were busy in Washington, D.C. April 2016.  The primary event was the panel discussion on Excess Facilities at the Dirksen Senate Office Building.  Jenny Freeman (StrataG) presided over a panel comprised of Monica Regalbuto (Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management), Ken Harrawood (CNS), Ken Rueter (UCOR), and Mark Duff (PPPO) who presented a compelling overview of the challenges DOE faces in addressing Excess Contaminated Facilities, and made the compelling case that delays in dealing with the inevitable clean-up of these facilities will only increase the funding required.  A number of key Congressional leaders including members of the House Nuclear Cleanup Caucus were on hand to hear this message including Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (TN, Caucus Chairman), Rep. Ben Ray Lujan (NM, Caucus Co-Chairman), Rep. Mike Simpson (ID), Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA), Rep. Steve Palazzo (MS), Rep. Joe Wilson (SC), and Rep. Brad Wenstrup (OH).
