8:00 am - 10:00 am
The Oak Ridge Business Safety Partnership (ORBSP) will hold a community safety forum at the American Museum of Science and Energy, 8:00 – 10:00a.m., Wednesday, February 10.
The featured speaker, Mr. Donnie Cook, is the Regional Safety Manager for the MYR Group’s Southeast Region. Mr. Cook started his career in the electrical industry in 1980 in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and remains a member today. He worked at the Kennedy Space Center in the Space Shuttle Program where he served as the safety lead for Ground Operations. When the Shuttle Program came to a close Mr. Cook joined the L.E. Myers Co. where he currently serves as Regional Safety Manager. He has been closely involved with Region IV OSHA in the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), serving as a Special Government Employee (SGE) in the program since 2003.
Mr. Cook’s program will reinforce the importance of consistent, day-by-day adherence to safety at a personal and individual level. In 2012, he lost a son in an accident and knows from personal experience that it only takes one deviation from the rules to end a life and change others’ lives forever.
L.E. Myers, established in 1891, is the oldest MYR Group subsidiary and is recognized as a premier electrical contractor of large utility construction projects across the nation, including three TVA nuclear plants located in the Southeast. As a member of the MYR Group, L.E. Myers now has industry-leading statistics with recordable annual incident rates that consistently fall well below the industry average rate.
